The Veggie Red Lion in Great Bricett, Suffolk

Despite there not being very many vegan options at restaurants here in Colchester, we found a vegan group that we meet with every now and then. Sometimes for meetings, usually with a theme and a presenter. Sometimes for a pub night. Sometimes they host protests, or distribute information. We went to a holiday party with them. This time, there was a vegan dinner at the Veggie Red Lion restaurant in Great Bricett, Suffolk, UK.

We decided to go, but it was quite a ways out from Colchester(about 22 miles). Since we don't drive, a professor from the University was kind enough to take us in his car. We weren't sure if it was appropriate to take picture from the car, so we didn't. But it was a very scenic drive. Green rolling fields most of the way. We passed a town even smaller than Colchester on the way, it looked interesting. It is a good thing I wasn't driving, or I would have wanted to stop everywhere to take pictures.

We finally got to the restaurant. It was in a rural area, which was surprising to us. I mean, how do they get enough customers in a rural area to sustain a vegetarian restaurant?! There must have been about 25 of us from the vegan group there.

The building was an old rustic style cottage. It was quite nice. And the meal was fantastic! This is what we ate:

Red Lion Veggie Burger(top left), curly fries. Curry plate(bottom left) with steamed veggies(center right). And a blueberry sorbet for dessert! Sophie had a pasta with marinara sauce.
On the outside, there was a patio for outdoor dining and a kids play area. Sophie really liked that. And there was a cat somewhere out there because she kept asking us to go help her find the cat every few minutes.

It was a very pleasant and delicious lunch with the NESX vegans at a very cool restaurant/pub. For the drive back, we had an interesting talk with the professor and we learned a few things about politics in the UK and about the queen in the process.
